I should clear out my stuff more often- I forgot I had these!
My Grandmother's collection of Stitchcraft magazine:
They were in one of those safe places that are practically impossible to get at...
The oldest copy is from 1932 (and has a special teen knitting feature which must have been the draw for my then 14 year old Grandmother!)
The red and white chequered jumper in the middle is a special quick and easy project for beginners (!).
The issues peter out after the fifties (I'm guessing by that point she had enough patterns to knit anything which took her fancy...)
Fancy another cover? Thought so:
A nice bit of knitted tweed for spring- just what the doctor (and the dog?) ordered!

Gosh, don't ya love these oldies (and did I just say gosh?) Is it my imagination or were the projects and patterns easier pre 1980? I think this is another thing we can blame on the Bush family....and Reagan.
Wow, those are fantastic, what fun.
ooh I'm so jealous of these ;)
ha ha! Brilliant! I love those old magazines. I originally learned to knit from this 60s pamphlet my mom had, which included an amazing recipe (er..pattern) for 2 needle mittens...and they were my favorite mittens ever. tee hee :)
Also, I think those styles could definitely be coming back...
Hi - I am a Stitchcraft enthusiast, and your collection must have been a delight to discover. The magazines were published from 1932 to 1982, and the one you have from 1932 is the second one ever published.
I have written a little about them on my website, but the page is not fully live yet (under construction)- you can find it at www.work4idlehands.co.uk/stitchcraft
What a wonderful find, will you make anything from them?
Love the knitted tweed! Great find...thanks for sharing!
What a treasure you have!!!
I'm turning green with envy...hey wait, green is my favorite color:)
Enjoy the look into your grandmothers past, It's always good to connect, and with small changes, those older patterns can be made to fit with today.
All I can say is "Lust!"
I love old magazines and patterns, your ones look great fun.
oh what a fantastic collection! i can't resist picking up old knitting patterns when i come across them in thrift shops - but 1932?! wow. most of mine seem to be from the sixties
those are awesome, you ought to frame them and turn a page every week or two like the alice in wonderland at the british library
I am most jealous, too. Like a previous poster, mine are mostly from the 1960's (McCalls's Needlework and Crafts has a wealth of amazing stuff - including the infamous ski masks, one of which I made).
